Independent roofing businesses are dropping like flies according to a 2006 census report.

The US Census bureau stated that 19.9% of independent roofing contractors are set to be shut down each year due to a lack of profits and other problems.

But It Gets Worse

The latest census data was collected in 2006 – before the economic meltdown swept through the american small business community like a plague.

“Back in 2006, everybody had money because the banks were handing it out like candy. But now jobs are drying up and the phone doesn’t ring nearly as much”, says California roofer who asked not to be named.

But the declining economy isn’t the worst of it. According to many roofers, the old means of getting new customers aren’t working anymore

Trusted Advertising Has Stopped Working

According to an industry study, most roofers rely on “old’ methods of advertising such as phone books to get customers.

Yet recent trends show those methods to be quickly nearing extinction.

“Nobody’s Using The Phone Book Anymore”

“I don’t use the phonebook anymore, so I don’t really expect other people to use it either, says marketing specialist Torre Crupie with the “Roofing Marketing Experts” Group in Reno, Nevada.

“In fact, research shows that 92% of local businesses searches are being done on the internet, and not in the phone book or the newspapers.

Good News: Customers Are Still Out There!

According to Google over 1,830,000 people are searching for a roofing on the internet every day. That breaks down to an amazing 1,271 people searching to hire a roofer each minute!

According to Crupie, this is no surprise. “People still need roofers and they always will… regardless of the economy. It’s just a matter of putting your roofing business in front of people who are looking for you. If you do this, you can easily have your best year ever.”

And for savvy roofers who embrace the Internet, the future is looking even brighter.

The Number Of Customers Is Actually Growing, In Spite Of The Economy.

According to Kelsey Research Group, the number of Internet users is growing by 18% per year.

And that only means that the number of people searching for a roofer is set to keep growing as well.

“This Is A Situation Where The First Roofer To Act Can Really Come Out On Top”

Crupie says the opportunity for roofers to get more customers than ever is huge.

“This is a classic situation where the people who take advantage of this opportunity first are going to be the ones who make the most money.”
